Curriculum
At St. Martin’s School, our curriculum goes beyond the basics. From Pre-K to 8th grade, students grow academically, spiritually, and emotionally in a nurturing, faith-centered environment. Guided by the Archdiocese of Washington, we support each child in building strong skills, discovering their gifts, and becoming confident learners prepared for high school and beyond.

Elementary School Highlights
Students explore academic subjects through hands-on activities like writing, performing, summarizing, and interpreting. Language arts instruction emphasizes fluency and expression, alongside grammar, spelling, and exposure to rich literature across genres and cultures.
Math instruction builds foundational understanding and problem-solving skills, with manipulatives used to support abstract reasoning and collaborative thinking. Concepts learned in math and language arts are applied across science, social studies, and religion.
Specials include instruction in art, music, library, Spanish, technology, and physical education, and all taught by dedicated specialists.
Middle School Highlights
Students learn in a departmentalized setting with subject-specific teachers. Our team-based approach builds independence, time management, and confidence which prepares students for success in competitive high schools.
Middle schoolers pursue accelerated coursework in math, English, and lab-based sciences. ChromeBooks and project-based learning support digital literacy across all subjects, with technology including 3D printing and interactive media enriching instruction.
Specials continue in art, music, Spanish, technology, and physical education.
Assessment
We use national standardized assessments to measure mastery, track student progress, and support differentiated learning, including accommodations for students with special needs. Learn more at the Archdiocese of Washington Schools Assessment page.
Accreditation
All Archdiocesan schools are accredited by Cognia, a nationally recognized organization focused on continuous school improvement. Every five years, an independent review team evaluates curriculum, instruction, and mission effectiveness through classroom visits, stakeholder interviews, and data analysis.
Our current accreditation is valid through June 30, 2026.
